North Suburban Speech-Language Association
2009-2010
Welcome to another year of professional development through the presentations and networking offered by the North Suburban Speech-Language Association. NSSLA is an ISHA-recognized area group that provides ASHA-approved continuing education programs throughout the school year. Your annual NSSLA membership dues make available to you all of the NSSLA programs schedule for this year.
Since the NSSLA committee chairs met over the summer to determine this season's program topics, our Program Chair, Pat Rom, has been hard at work to schedule an outstanding line-up for us. As always, Pat, we greatly appreciate your unflagging persistence and diligence.
Unfortunately, our planned first meeting on October 8th had to be cancelled. Therefore, Dr. Doris Johnson will kick off our 2009-2010 year on December 1st with "Development and Disorders of Written Language". Then, on January 23, 2010, Dr. Georgia Bozeday will present "Intervenion Strategies for Students with Language Learning Disorders and Executive Function Challenges."
Dr. Catherine Balthazar is scheduled to present "How Do I Know My Intervention is Working?: Single Subject Research Designs" on March 10, 2010. On April 24th, SLP Stacey Buck, a local private practitioner, will share her insights on collaboration and integrating speech-language therapy services with the language arts curriculum. Weeknight meetings begin with a business meeting at 5:45, prior to 6:30 to 8:30 programs; Saturday programs begin with a 1-1:30 business meeting before a 1:30 to 4:30 programs.
At this writing, we expect to extend our season into May so that we can maintain the NSSLA tradition of 5 CE-programs per year. Watch for May meeting information.
Please note that in a change from recent years, NSSLA will be meeting at the Northbrook Public Library, 1201 Cedar Lane (847.272.6224). This is viewed as a temporary relocation, so stay tuned for site information.
In our effort to remain paperless, all NSSLA communications will be made electronically. Thanks to our Electronic Communications Chair, Laura Gean, and to our Website Chair, Robyn Newman, for making this happen. Watch for email announcements and check this website regularly for organization updates and information.
IMPORTANT: We strongly request that you print out the membership form listed below and mail in your registration for the 2009-2010 year well in advance of the December meeting because we need to minimize money transactions on site.
