Program:
This Program will describe the nature of speech sound learning and a model of speech production. The analysis of speech samples in children with speech sound disorders will be demonstrated. Specific intervention approaches including Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) method and Hodson’s Cycles Approach will be summarized.

Learning Outcomes:
Following this presentation, participants will be able to:
- describe the Directions Into Velocities of Articulators (DIVA) model and identify areas of breakdown in children with speech sound disorders.
- conduct independent and relational analyses on a speech sample.
- identify the principles of motor learning theory as applied in the Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) intervention method
About our Speaker:
Maureen A. Sweeney, PhD., CCC-SLP has over 35 years of experience working with children and adults with autism and related disorders. Along with being a partner and clinical director at Sweeney, Augustin and Associates, Dr. Sweeney currently serves as Co-President of the North Suburban Speech and Language Association and teaches the Pediatric Speech Sound Disorder graduate class at Northwestern University. She is a past-president and member of the board of Have Dreams, a nonprofit organization that provides after school and weekend programs for children with autism. Dr. Sweeney completed her undergraduate and graduate work at Northwestern University and has presented at many conferences including the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association, the Illinois Speech Language and Hearing Association, and the North Suburban Speech and Language Association as well as at trainings including The Autism Project of Illinois TAP 3-Advanced Topics in Autism.
Robyn M. Newman, PhD, CCC-SLP began her clinical career 16 years ago working in both private and public schools with children who have significant special needs. Currently, Dr. Newman has a private practice in Chicago, PediaTalk, LLC, that provides home-based speech and language assessment and intervention services for preschool, elementary, middle, and high school-aged children who have a variety of developmental speech and language disorders. She also consults with private day schools in the Chicago area and is an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University, teaching the graduate-level Pediatric Speech Sound Disorders course. Dr. Newman has presented at the local, state, and national levels and continues to provide guest lectures on a variety of topics to graduate students studying neuropsychology, school psychology, and speech-language pathology. She is the Secretary of the North Suburban Speech-Language Association and is completing her tenth year of their Board of Directors. Dr. Newman received her academic training from the University of Illinois (BS) and Northwestern University (MA, PhD).

An annual ASHA CE Registry fee is required to register ASHA CEUs. ASHA CE Registry fees are paid directly to the ASHA National Office. To register CEUs with ASHA, you must complete a CE participant form, turn it in at the time of the activity, and pay the ASHA CE Registry fee. ASHA CEUs are awarded ONLY AFTER receipt of the CE Participant Form AND payment of the Registry fee.
Program Completion Requirements:
Participants are expected to be present for the entire program. Individuals who are not present for the full program will not be recommended for ASHA CEUs. No partial credit will be provided.
