Program:
The workshop will describe basic respiratory anatomy and physiology and provide a framework to apply this information in the speech pathology clinic. Case studies and interactive activities will be used to demonstrate practical application of techniques.

Objectives:
Following this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Describe the difference between mechanical and cellular respiration.
- State three benefits of nasal breathing.
- List three common symptoms of over-breathing.
About our Speaker:
Liz Platt is a speech-language pathologist with 29 years of experience. She received both her BS and MA in speech pathology at Northwestern University. She began her career on the faculty of the Northwestern University Medical school working at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and participating in research under the guidance of Jeri Logemann, Ph.D. After leaving Northwestern, Liz worked at numerous hospitals and private clinics. From 2004 to 2014 she worked in the office of Children’s Asthma Respiratory and Exercise Specialists. In addition to ASHA and ISHA, she is a member of the Buteyko Breathing Educators Association and the National Guild of Hypnotists. Liz has worked with clients privately since leaving Northwestern and currently has a private practice in Lake Forest, Illinois.
This course is offered for .3 ASHA CEUs (professional area, intermediate level).
Program Completion Requirements:
Participants are expected to be present for the entire program. Individuals who are not present for the full program will not be recommended for ASHA CEUs. No partial credit will be provided.
