What is the SLPs role with Dyslexia? Dyslexia impacts students in their educational performance and development. The definition, diagnosis, and history of dyslexia in research and remediation will be briefly discussed. Goal areas, ideas, and activities for treatment will be identified for the SLP. |

Learning Objectives:
The participants will:
- Define dyslexia and describe a brief history of dyslexia in research, law, and education.
- Identify current resources and assessments for the identification and treatment of dyslexia.
- Apply SLP skill area development to the treatment of language and word structure skills for students with
dyslexia or a profile of dyslexia.

An annual ASHA CE Registry fee is required to register ASHA CEUs. ASHA CE Registry fees are paid directly to the ASHA National Office. To register CEUs with ASHA, you must complete a CE participant form, turn it in at the time of the activity, and pay the ASHA CE Registry fee. ASHA CEUs are awarded ONLY AFTER receipt of the CE Participant Form AND payment of the Registry fee.

About Our Speaker(s)
Tom Parton, M.S., CCC-SLP/L recently retired from Normal Community West High School in Normal, Illinois. His interest is in the area of autism spectrum disorders and language and reading development. He has presented at local, state, and national conferences in the areas of advocacy, language/literacy, vocabulary, and autism. He has previously served as an adjunct lecturer at Illinois State University. Tom has served in various positions for the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association, including President. He participated in ISBE’s Reading Improvement Advisory Group which established a toolkit and information for districts throughout the state. He currently serves on the Board for Everyone Reading Illinois.
